May 26: Song Call
Time to roll up your sleeves and get busy writing. To motivate you with a songwriting goal, our theme this time around is RUNNING RACES.
We are all running races, of one sort or another. You could write about the pressure of competition, the joy of pushing your limits, of victories or losses. Or you can be inspired to take one step sideways and explore the metaphorical nature of the race. Have fun!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to “answer the call”. You have until May 26th to write and record a demo of a new song around the idea “RUNNING RACES”, and send it to songcall@songstudio.ca (MP3 audio file, and PDF of your lyrics).
Again, this is important and people seem to miss it in all the excitement:
Send MP3 audio of your demo, and a PDF of your lyrics.
Please don’t send a link to your SoundCloud, or lyrics in a Microsoft Word document, etc.
Stuck? Call a songwriter friend and write it together.
Got two new songs for the call? Send ’em both.
Got an older song? Leave it at home. Write something fresh!
Lunch & Listen
On Sunday, May 26th, we will host a FREE Zoom listening party from 11:00am-1:00pm, Eastern Time. Bring your lunch and enjoy the songs written to “answer the call”. The Zoom link will be emailed to the SongStudio mailing list, so be sure you’re on our mailing list if you’d like to attend.
This is NOT a critique session. The point of Song Call is push you to write songs and inspire you to stay on the recommended theme. Have fun and write on!

Hello!
I will put the SongCall date on my calendar BUT I plan to travel to NFLD in May so it depends on whether I am at home or spending a quiet day on my trip. It’s not booked yet. Unlikely to have a new song and demo, but I’d love to be able to listen. So far, I have missed them all.
