James Linderman

James Linderman works at the jameslinderman music lesson studio in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. He teaches guitar, piano, bass and music theory as well as contemporary songwriting and film composition, in studio, as well as over Skype to students all over the world.

Over his varied career, James has been a regular columnist for Canadian Musician magazine and a freelance writer for over 10 international music publications including the UK online magazine Songwriting.  He is the author of the book series titled Song Forms for Songwriters that is based on his primary academic discipline known as compositional abstraction. It is a system for creating new songs from shadowing single elemental features extracted from existing work.

In 2006, James was selected for a 21 member, international, off-campus academic advisory board for Berklee College of Music known as Berkleemusic Ambassadors, focusing on adapting Berklee campus courses for online learning, academic course audits, and representing and promoting Berklee at music events and conferences.

James has been a featured guest presenter at events such as The Power Up Music Conference at York University in Toronto, The Humber College Summer Songwriting Workshop, Break Out West, The Producers Conference, and Songstudio. James developed and taught a specialized curriculum for The Canada Film Centre’s Slaight Music Residency in film composition and songwriting and often partners on projects with The Songwriters Association of Canada.
