Get ready for our next FREE songwriting challenge. We’ll ask you to write a song to a specific topic, and then we’ll gather to listen to the new songs.

The topic for this month is a good one – Song Call’s Greatest Hits!

We don’t just have ONE topic for you this time, we have all the topics we’ve ever posted for a Song Call. So write something new to your choice of these topics, OR finish something you started for another Song Call but didn’t finish in time for the call.

TOPICS:

• BREAKING “UP” – a break-up song that isn’t sad
• GROWTH – because there’s always room for a little more
• HISTORY – yours, or a story from the past
• HOLIDAYS – festive time, beach time, all types of holiday
• MOTHERS & FATHERS – or sisters, or brothers, you get it
• MOVIES – pick a character or plot from your favourite flick
• NEAR MISSES – anything just out of reach
• RUNNING RACES – lace up and write
• SPACE – the cosmos, or right before your eyes

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to “answer the call”. You will have until May 17th to write and record a demo of a new (or newly-finished) song around the given topic, and send it to songcall@songstudio.ca (MP3 audio file, and PDF of your lyrics).

To repeat, this is about NEW SONGWRITING, not about sending us something written years ago. Challenge yourself and get writing!

Lunch & Listen

On Saturday, May 17th, we will host a FREE Zoom listening party from 10:00am-12:00pm, Eastern Time. Bring your lunch and enjoy the songs written to “answer the call”. The Zoom link will be emailed to the SongStudio mailing list, so be sure you’re on our mailing list if you’d like to attend.

This is NOT a critique session. The point of Song Call is push you to write songs and inspire you to stay on the recommended theme. Have fun and write on!
