Here we are in the midst of Movie Awards season, so let’s embrace it.

We’re challenging you to write a new song around the following topic: MOVIES.

Start by choosing a favourite movie to motivate yourself. Then decide how you will draw inspiration from the movie. It could be:

• Inspired by the title of the movie
• Inspired by a character in the movie, or simply by the name of a character in the movie
• Inspired by the story of the film
• Inspired by how much you love going to the movies
• …you get the point

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to “answer the call”. You have until February 17th to write and record a demo of a new song around the idea “MOVIES”, and send it to songcall@songstudio.ca (MP3 audio file, and PDF of your lyrics).

I’ll repeat, because this is important and people seem to miss it: Send MP3 audio and a PDF of your lyrics. Please don’t send a link to your SoundCloud, or lyrics in a Microsoft Word document, etc.

Stuck? Call a songwriter friend and write it together.

Got two new songs for the call? Send ’em both.

Got an older song about something “NEW”? Leave it at home. Write something fresh!

Lunch & Listen

On Saturday, February 17th, we will host a FREE Zoom listening party from 11:00am-1:00pm, Eastern Time. Bring your lunch and enjoy the songs written to “answer the call”. The Zoom link will be emailed to the SongStudio mailing list, so be sure you’re on our mailing list if you’d like to attend.

This is NOT a critique session. The point of Song Call is push you to write songs and inspire you to stay on the recommended theme. Have fun and write on!
