SongStudio Workshop
Our week-long songwriters’ workshop has been running since 2005, when it was first designed by Rik Emmett (Triumph) and Blair Packham (The Jitters). It typically runs in the middle of July each year.
The workshop focuses on putting our participants face-to-face with professional songwriters to examine the participants’ songs with an eye to opportunities for strengthening each song’s appeal, its emotional connection, and its ability to communicate with an audience. In this way, we teach songwriting craft using our participants’ own songs as both examples and as benefactors of this advice.
The workshop also takes time to share interviews with these professional songwriters, including Q&A and live performance for the participants. Additional components of the workshop week are co-writing, community building, and opportunities to perform for one another in a safe space. We focus one day of the week to more “industry” activities, learning from experts in the fields of publishing, publicity, recording and production, etc. And we top it off with one-on-one opportunities to ask questions, present songs, and generally hang out with our professional mentors.
Where other workshops operate in a webinar or stage-and-audience setting, we have always given participants the experience of working directly with our professional mentors.

Do you plan to run the SongStudio workshop in-person this summer? If so, I am interested in attending. What is the registration fee?
Hi Paul,
Thank you for reaching out. Yes, we are planning to host BOTH an in-person and an online workshop, so that participants can choose the one that best fits their availability and interest. We’re still confirming our Toronto location and dates for the in-person workshop, but we expect to publish the details very soon.
I suggest you join our email list (click Stay in the Know on our homepage) and then you’ll be among the first to know when we announce!
